Marten Root has done extensive research on renaissance flutes. Unfortunately only few original instruments have survived. Those housed in the Accademia Filarmonica di Verona are of his particular interest and copies he made after these flutes are being played by many professional musicians.

Marten Root and Doretthe Janssens have been long time colleagues with the Nederlandse Bachvereniging. Musicians of the youngest generation, Aysha Wills and David Westcombe, are his former students from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and have joined the Bachvereniging Baroque Orchestra as 'Young Bach Fellows'.
